“The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it”
From the Parish Church of St Anne in Kew:

Last year we tried a Carbon Fast during Lent because of our increased awareness of climate change and the contribution of our carbon emissions to this threat to our planet.  The consequences of our carbon dependence affect us all, but particularly the poorest people in the world.  As Christians we believe we have a God-given responsibility to care for creation as part of our everyday discipleship.  The Carbon Fast gives us the opportunity to examine and reshape daily patterns of life, spending habits and travel choices.

We invite you to join this Carbon Fast in Kew for Lent 2019.

Visit this page daily (or click here for a printable download) to take some small action that will reduce your carbon footprint and help you to reflect on the entrusted gift of God's creation and of our need to care for the planet.

All powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures.  You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.  Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty.  Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes.  Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.  Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth.

Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey toward your infinite light.  We thank you for being with us each day.   Help us to prepare for a better future, for the coming of your Kingdom of justice, peace, love and beauty.  Praise be to you!  Amen

Pope Francis, Laudato Si, final prayer for our earth.
