Christian Aid Week

at St Luke's, 15th - 21st May

Jonathan and Jayne, our Christian Aid co-ordinators, would like to give thanks to everyone who has donated to Christian Aid week through the Christian Aid envelopes and JustGiving page. We have raised the great amount of £578 so far. Christian Aid's work is vitally important and could not happen without your support and contributions. The annual Richmond Riverside sponsored walk will be happening in September so if anyone would like to join us on the walk then let us know. Details will be announced nearer the time.

Your gifts could help women like Jessica provide food - and hope - for their families.

Christian Aid is a charity that works to fight poverty around the world and is supported by 40 church denominations in the UK and Ireland. It funds projects that help people improve their own lives, regardless of race or religion and challenges the causes of poverty and injustice. It does not give money to governments but works through local community organisations in over 50 countries. This work could not happen without the support and contributions from churches and communities throughout the world.

Christian Aid Week is a special week of fundraising across the UK where churches and organisations focus their efforts with street and door to door collections and many different fund-raising events. This year the week runs from the 15th to 22nd May and money raised will be supporting Zimbabwe (Christian Aid have already had an appeal for Ukraine in the first weeks of the war). Zimbabwe's food production has been hit by drought caused by climate change and exacerbated by the pandemic. In addition, much of Zimbabwe's precious wheat and the fertilisers used to grow food are imported from Russia and Ukraine where supplies will be disrupted. Zimbabwe’s food crisis will just get worse as a result.

For Christian Aid Week, St Luke's is providing special envelopes for making donations rather than making house to house collections. The special collection envelopes will be available at the Sunday services on the 8th, 15th and 22nd of May. We are asking everyone who would traditionally have given to Christian Aid during the Christian Aid week to donate through the envelopes instead. The envelopes can be returned at the end of the services, handed into the parish office or passed to Jayne or Jonathan Armstrong directly.

An online contribution can also be made through the JustGiving website where we have set up a dedicated page for St Luke's:

The Barn Christian Aid coordinator, Anne Lynch, will be doing the 300,000 step challenge throughout May. Mondays to Fridays she will be walking 3 laps of North Sheen Rec, starting at 9.00am. You are welcome to join her.

Thank you,

Jonathan & Jayne Armstrong
